Old family photos – Keepsake Image Box

I dropped the ball on our wedding day photography. Big time!

It was back in 2001, I was a visual effects artist and most of our wedding guests were ‘artsy’ of sort, either designers, musicians, photographers, directors, etc., so we didn’t hire a professional photographer to photograph our wedding. Being in the ‘industry’ it seemed to be totally un-cool at the time. Instead, we followed the trend and gave our guests disposable cameras to take pictures of themselves, kinda selfies but of each other. A cute idea maybe, but relying on it for your wedding photos was totally dumb! I know, I take full responsibility. What was I thinking!?!

Either way, it really didn’t bother me that much until last year, when I started to offer albums to my clients and I realized how absolutely stunning they can look. Knowing how beautiful our wedding was I know how beautiful our wedding album could have been if it was photographed properly by a professional.

So 13 years later, I’m back looking at our wedding photos and trust me when I say that it couldn’t look worse. All the photos are from disposable cameras, the quality is terrible, the light is awful and the scanned resolution is horrendous (1025×683, that’s less than a business card size at 300dpi), you would be embarrassed to show them on your iPhone. But hey, it is what it is and we need to do our best, right?

So I decided to take the risk and do something with it anyway. I choose 20 photos and made a keepsake box with 8×8 matted prints. Went with top quality, fine art paper, luxurious box, made in Italy, the whole shebang. And while I’m on it, I also selected 20 photos of my parents and family (My parents passed away 20 years ago and neither my wife or children ever met them) and I’ve made a 20 photos portrait box in their memory.

The two portrait boxes arrived today. They look absolutely beautiful. Knowing that I now have this to pass on to our children makes me incredibly happy.
